A Fantastic Day - Gattonian Day 2018
It was a day of full sunshine, great friends, and lots of sport. This year's Gattonian Day was a success!
For the second year running, the Gatton Association hosted Gattonian Day on the first Saturday in September. It was a fun family day for all Gattonians, including new, present and past students.
Gattonians of all ages came to watch the Old Gattonians sports teams take to the netball, football and rugby fields for an enjoyable afternoon of sport. In netball, Old Gattonians played the School’s 1st VII, with experience winning over youth, 15-13. In the football, Old Gattonians played against an established side, AFC Gatton. It was a very balanced game and both sides played well. With a 1-1 draw, the game was decided on penalties which AFC Gatton won. The rugby was a closely fought match and, in the end, the Old Gattonians were victorious, winning 34-19. A fantastic set of results for the Old Gattonians Sports Society!
This year, for the first time, the event was held in the School’s Top Field with the barbecue run by the Friends (PTA) of the School. The burgers and hotdogs were so popular that they sold out!
Many tours of the School grounds were expertly led by the Gatton Trust and a few lucky Cornwall old girls had an impromptu tour of their dorms to show their children where they went to School.
There was also a raffle which many Gattonians contributed to, both by donating fantastic prizes and also by generously buying tickets. The proceeds of the raffle will go to the Association’s bursary fund to help more children from difficult backgrounds have access to a boarding education.
For those who simply wanted to enjoy the sunshine, there was plenty of that! Many families brought their picnic blankets and had a fun afternoon soaking up the great atmosphere. In total over 250 Gattonians attended and made the event a great success.
The Gatton Association hopes to continue to build on this fantastic event and welcome back many more Gattonians next year. Gattonian Day will be an annual event and will take place on the first Saturday of September. Add it to your diaries now!
